Koç University Ph.D. and MSC position in brown bear ecology and conservation genetics

We invite applications for a Ph.D. position and fellowship in brown bear ecology and conservation genetics funded by a TUBITAK grant. This position is led by a multi-disciplinary team consisting of Dr. Çağan Hakkı Şekercioğlu, and Dr. Morteza Naderi, and will be based at the Department of Molecular Biology and Genetics at Koç University in Istanbul, Turkey.

We seek students preferably with training in conservation genetics, ecology, niche modeling, and dietary analysis. The primary goal of this TUBITAK 1001 project is to investigate the barriers to gene flow among the brown bear populations in Turkey. The Ph.D. student will be responsible for participating in research to characterize the brown bear genome, to conduct habitat measurements, and to participate in field sampling activities across the country.

Preferred candidates should have a related M.Sc. degree or a B.Sc. degree, with experience in habitat modeling, scat analysis, and molecular biology and genetics research. The applicant should be able to do fieldwork for extended periods to collect the necessary samples.

This position provides a salary of 3500 TL/month for a Ph.D. student if the student is not concurrently employed elsewhere, and a supplement of 275 TL/month.
